Good and all, but...

The song doesn't go anywhere. There isn't any dynamic change. It needs to go somewhere, move to something idea wise. Visualize a story of some sort and create the track around that. We don't need to see the same backdrop with the same chase scene, in the same direction the whole time. Add something more!

Death-9 responds:

Yeah, I see what you mean. I'll try to do that on the next song I make. Fortunately, visualizing is something I'm good at, so I hope I can do it well enough!

I'd give you some reviews, but I got banned from reviewing for a few months...

NICE!!!

I've heard a remix of this before, but I like your style of mixing and your synth choice, it's very full and deep, almost reminds me of 8-bit on steroids, good stuff mate!

-Please check out my music as well, especially this one, http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/153331.

Rawmin responds:

Thanks mate, i worked pretty hard on this song in terms of mixing.

I'll be sure to review some of your music.

Sounds a bit outta pitch, but...

Overall, not bad, nice guitar work. Your vocal test is a GO GO GO!!!

-Please check out my newest song, http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/153331, if you'd like :)

Psychopath responds:

Thank you for the comparison rating, BTW I didn't do any of the music, I just sung to Soldier Side by SOAD and uploaded it to ask for a comparison by everyone. Thanks for the comparison anyways. I was very nervous uploading this. I figured I was gonna get 2's and 0's. Thanks!

Hmm...

If there was more variation in the melody and the different harmonies/chords, I believe that hip-hop would actually sound good, you are on to something ;)

flashmac responds:

I take it your not a big fan of hip hop and what you said makes sense. I'm glad you some what liked it though =D

haha

I play piano the same exact way. I taught myself, and then I wing it, I can't read piano music, I just go from whatever whim I'm floating towards :P

DjGamah responds:

It works, eh? :P

Nice, needs minor improvement.

-EQ'ing on the piano could be better. The high frequency end of the piano can be taken down to allow room for other instruments like the high strings and other sound effects. After that boost the high end of the electro strings and some of the higher instruments, it would give this work a little more atmosphere.

mjattie responds:

I'll look at it :), tx for review

Opinions?

Lol, alright, I'm not the best in the world at those, but on the mix, I can certainly be of assistance.

-The first hi-hat (16th note) sound that comes out is way tinny, get rid of the mid frequencies on that one.

-Some of the vocals are a bit hard to understand with the lyrics, possibly make those stronger? Vocals usually run into the mid range the most, so if there are instruments distracting that, find a way to mesh those vocals in so they are clear and can be heard and that the rest of the song is still present, but underlying.
-The first set of vocals are an exception, very nice on those! It's when the accompaniment (bass, drums, background synths) kicks in where the vocals are hard to hear. I must say, however, that the accompaniment is really nice, driving, and very meaty, keep that!

-That's all I've got right now, good luck with the contest!

Rig responds:

Yeah, there are problems with the mix, mostly because I'm using cheap headphones. I tried to compensate, but there will be problems. :P

Thanks for the advice though, once I get back to my speakers I'll take it into account.

Not bad

-I felt like the song was very unique in it's writing, and it really shows in this song, I haven't been lucky enough to hear good stuff like this from Newgrounds, but the mixing/producing on this work is really muddled to my ears. The singing is great, but it isn't fit into the song right, especially with the bassy accompaniment. The singing feels a bit too bassy as well, and with a voice that high, it shouldn't be that way. In either case, whether I'm right or wrong, make sure that certain frequencies fit where they need to through EQ'ing.

MaestroRage:
Thank you for your very insightful review ID. I knew that the EQ'ing for this song was horribly off, it kept bugging me and bugging me... but sadly as you listen to a song more and more, the flaws and faults dull to your ears in time. It didn't help that my headphones weren't built for this degree of bass, and the new headphones I ordered are like 2 weeks overdue.

It's not me trying to justify my flaws, but i'm glad i'm not the only one who thought that. Thank you for your honesty, truly, it helped!

yeah

It could be expanded, and taking some time to think it over and create will help towards that, but wow, yeah. I seriously thought this was on a real piano for a second, really nice sound!

M1CKEH responds:

Nice, thanks...

reviews are important for me.

Hey!

Looks like we're looking at the same career path! Sweet!

-Well, from what I know, keep writing music! Practice makes perfect. Find ways to imagine scenes like this and keep going, maybe even imagine action and put to music, whatever. It's about perseverance and getting your work out there. I would suggest finding a college for film scoring, or looking for ways into the business. At the same time, I'd also be cautious, in a world where the economy is on a downturn or whatever you'd like to call it, the music industry won't thrive nearly as well, but you never know. Either way, if you love it, do it!

-Maybe we could collaborate, but judging from this awesome sound, I don't have this kinda sound, just the theory knowledge and imagination to write.

-ImperfectDisciple

Equation responds:

Yeah it would be great getting into the music industry... and getting paid for what you enjoy doing, who knows.. mabey one day?

Thanks for the review
